Pipe Stress Engineer

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Pipe Stress Engineer to support offshore Oil & Gas engineering projects.

The role will be responsible for piping flexibility and stress analysis, ensuring piping systems are designed in accordance with applicable codes, project specifications, equipment limitations, and operational requirements.

The successful candidate should have strong hands-on experience with CAESAR II, offshore/FPSO piping systems, equipment interfaces, pipe supports, and static and dynamic load cases.

Scope of work

• Perform piping flexibility and stress analysis using CAESAR II for critical piping systems.
• Develop and review pipe stress models, calculations, stress reports, and associated engineering deliverables.
• Define and evaluate applicable load cases, including sustained, thermal expansion, occasional, dynamic, transportation, wind, seismic, surge, slug, and other project-specific loads.
• Evaluate piping stresses, displacements, support loads, equipment nozzle loads, and flange integrity against applicable allowable limits.
• Develop and optimise piping support and restraint configurations in coordination with Piping, Structural, Mechanical, and other engineering disciplines.
• Review piping layouts and recommend routing or support modifications to achieve acceptable flexibility and equipment loads.
• Perform or support analysis of piping connected to static and rotating equipment, including pumps, compressors, vessels, and other packaged equipment.
• Review vendor documentation, equipment allowable loads, and vendor stress-analysis reports where applicable.
• Provide pipe support loads and other relevant engineering inputs to Structural and Civil teams.
• Participate in interdisciplinary reviews and resolve technical comments related to piping stress and flexibility.
• Ensure engineering deliverables comply with project specifications, client requirements, and applicable industry codes and standards.

Key requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Approximately 5–10 years of relevant experience in piping engineering and pipe stress analysis within Oil & Gas, offshore, FPSO, EPC/EPCIC, or similar projects.
• Strong hands-on proficiency in CAESAR II.
• Good knowledge of applicable piping codes and standards, including ASME B31.3 and other relevant ASME piping codes.
• Experience with piping flexibility, equipment nozzle-load evaluation, flange checks, and pipe support design.
• Familiarity with static and dynamic piping load cases and offshore operating conditions.
• Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinating piping interfaces with Structural, Mechanical, Process, and other disciplines.
• Experience with AutoPIPE, ANSYS, STAAD.Pro, or equivalent engineering software would be an advantage.
• Strong technical problem-solving, communication, and engineering documentation skills.
• Able to work independently and take ownership of assigned pipe stress engineering deliverables.
