Overview
As the Pipe Support Lead Engineer, you will lead all pipe support engineering activities for the assigned project, ensuring safe, economical, and code-compliant pipe support designs throughout the project lifecycle.
You will coordinate closely with Piping Stress, Piping Design, Civil/Structural, Mechanical, Procurement, and Vendor teams while providing technical leadership and mentoring to pipe support engineers and designers.
Scope of work
Lead and coordinate all pipe support engineering activities for the assigned project.
Review project specifications, piping layouts, stress requirements, and applicable design standards.
Develop pipe support design philosophy and ensure compliance with project and client requirements.
Guide the selection and placement of pipe support types, including anchors, guides, stops, hangers, spring supports, rigid struts, sliding plates, and special supports.
Coordinate with Piping Stress Engineers to ensure support arrangements satisfy stress and flexibility requirements.
Review and approve pipe support drawings, standard details, support sketches, and fabrication deliverables.
Prepare and review support loading data for Civil/Structural design.
Coordinate with Mechanical Engineers regarding equipment nozzle load requirements.
Prepare specifications, material requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and vendor documentation for special pipe support items.
Review vendor documents related to spring supports, expansion joints, and other special support systems.
Ensure consistency between approved stress isometrics, IFC isometrics, and support deliverables.
Monitor discipline progress, deliverable schedules, and quality objectives.
Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and support to junior engineers and designers.
Participate in design reviews, model reviews, HAZOP, constructability reviews, and project coordination meetings.
Identify technical risks and develop practical engineering solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
Key requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent recognized engineering qualification.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in Oil & Gas, LNG, or Petrochemical engineering projects.
- At least 5 years of experience in pipe support engineering with demonstrated experience leading engineering teams or discipline activities.
- Strong knowledge of pipe support design, support load calculations, and support selection.
- Experience working closely with Piping Stress Engineers using CAESAR II deliverables.
- Familiarity with international piping codes and standards, including ASME B31.3, MSS SP standards, and relevant support design practices.
- Experience preparing support loading sheets for Civil/Structural design.
- Experience with material requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and vendor document reviews.
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, piping layouts, isometrics, and 3D models.
- Strong coordination and communication skills across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
- Organized, proactive, and able to work under minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities.
